Apple Planning To Build External Battery Pack

AppleInsider is reporting that a U.S. Patent and Trademark application entitled “Power Adapter with Internal Battery” outlines plans for a wall charger with an integrated battery pack that charges a device while plugged into the wall at home, and charge while on the road.

Apple points out that such charging devices already exists, but aren’t as handy as one could be if it were built into a standard wall charger.

This device would incorporate a processor which would allow for a dynamic charging between the battery and a device hooked into the charger which is drawing power from the wall. The charger would also be able to share it’s status with the device it is charging. The charger would also include a wireless adapter that could allow for information access from a computer, even without being wire connected. Lastly, the device could utilize other means of obtaining power other than a wall outlet, such as solar power.

Well, it’s essentially a wall charger like you get with a MacBook, but it also has a battery integrated in it, that can be used to charge devices when your away from an electrical outlet, or from an alternate power source such as solar. Plus, it can wirelessly communicate with the device it’s charging, while also being smart enough to know which device to charge more-the battery or the device attached to it.
